If you are a new iPhone user or you have just upgraded to the latest iPhone from Apple, the first thing that you will have to do would be to set up and activate new iPhone. If you haven’t done that before, there are basically a couple of methods that you can try for activating your iPhone. Both of them are described here.

Activate New iPhone With A Cellular Or Wi-Fi Connection
So, the first option you have is to activate your iPhone using cellular or wi-fi connection. Here are the steps that you need to follow for this.
- To begin with you will have to insert your new SIM into the iPhone before you can activate it. However, if you directly bought from the carrier then your SIM card might already be inserted.
- Here it is important that the SIM card is activated already by the carrier. Trying to activate your iPhone with a SIM from some other carrier won’t work if your iPhone is carrier-locked.
- Buying an iPhone from the store of a carrier usually means that your SIM is already inserted as well as activated.
- Now Turn your iPhone On.
- Start setting your iPhone up by pressing Home button; select your region and language to continue.
- Now it’s time to select your connection option. Either connect to your home wi-fi connection or choose to use the cellular connection for activating the iPhone.
- If the only option you get here is “Connect to iTunes” then you will have to connect your device to your computer and then activate it using iTunes.
- Once the device connects to the internet, it will try to activate. It doesn’t take more than few minutes.
- Here, you may have to provide your Apple login credentials to activate new iPhone.
- Finish the setting up process by selecting a backup to restore the iPhone from. If asked, provide the Apple ID you use and set some other preferences. As soon as you get access to the Lock, the iPhone is activated successfully.
Activate New iPhone Using iTunes
If you want to use iTunes for activating your new iPhone then here is what you need to do.
- Ensure that you’re running latest iTunes version. You can determine that by clicking Help tab towards the top left side of the screen and then clicking Check for Updates. Wait until iTunes searches for the updates and then click Download if prompted.
- Turn your iPhone on and start the set up process by selecting your region and language preferences.
- In ‘Available Wireless Networks’, tap on connect to iTunes. However, if that option is not available and you can see the ‘Use Cellular Connection’ option then tap it and use the other method described above to continue.
- Connect the iPhone with your PC using USB cable. If you haven’t already opened iTunes on your computer then it will start automatically based on what settings you have for iTunes sync. If it doesn’t then start it manually.
- Click on ‘Set up as new iPhone’ or ‘Restore from this backup’ as appropriate.
- When prompted, click on ‘Get Started’ and then click on Sync. This will synchronize the iPhone with iTunes Library and your iPhone will be activated as a result.
- Remember to have a working internet connection while doing this.
- Finally, complete the setup process by providing your Apple ID and create your passcode. There are some other preferences that you have to select as well. As soon as you get access to the Lock, the iPhone is activated successfully.
So, these are the two methods you can use to activate new iPhone. You can choose any of these as you deem appropriate and both of them work fine.
