  1. Go to Settings from Home Screen of your iPhone
  2. Swipe up and scroll the menu down until iCloud option becomes visible
  3. Tap iCloud
  4. Tap iCloud Drive
  5. If iCloud drive is not enabled, tap turn iCloud drive on
  6. Also ensure that you have iCloud access turned on for Whatsapp. And, as apps are usually listed alphabetically, so you will be able to find WhatsApp towards the end

Steps To Backup Whatsapp Messages On iCloud

Once you have iCloud Drive backup enabled, here are steps to follow to backup Whatsapp messages on iCloud Drive.

  1. Launch the Whatsapp application on your iPhone
  2. Tap Settings button (the gear-like icon that you can see towards the bottom right of the screen)
  3. Tap Chats
  4. Tap Chat Backup
  5. Now, tap on Backup Now for uploading all the chat data of your Whatsapp to iCloud Drive

It is also possible to set your iCloud Drive up for storing your chats automatically as well. Here is how to do that from the same screen in order to backup Whatsapp messages.

  1. Tap on Auto Backup
  2. Select your desired Backup Frequency from Daily, Weekly or Monthly by tapping on it
  3. Now tap the Chat Backup option to move to the previous Settings menu
  4. You will see “Include Videos” option here and a toggle switch in front of it. Tap to turn it on or off as you like depending on whether you want to backup your video messages as well or not.

That’s all, you have successfully set things up and can now backup Whatsapp messages to iCloud Drive. From now on, if you reinstall the Whatsapp application on your iPhone, you will be able to restore all your previous data from the iCloud backup. Also, if you intend to switch to new iPhone, ensure that you have the latest backup ready on iCloud first. Now, when setting up Whatsapp on the new iPhone, just choose to restore chat history as you are prompted.
