How To Get An Unlock Feature Similar To Face ID On Your iPhone

The Face ID from Apple remains to be a widely accepted system for facial recognition on smartphones today. However, for now, it is available only on iPhone X and though we’ll see it changing pretty soon with the launch of new iPhones next month, you can still be able to pretend that you have access to Face ID now on your jailbroken iPhone.

Yes, that’s possible with Appellancy, a trending jailbreak tweak. And, even though it does not provide you with the original Face ID on your non-iPhone X smartphones, it does create an illusion that you are using the latest in unlocking tech and facial recognition. Remember, however, that it is not that secure as is the original one.

Nevertheless, if you are interested in using this feature on your non-iPhone X device, here we have a step-by-step guide for you to get things started. It works on all iPhones regardless of the model you have. Let’s check out what you need to do.

  1. First of all, you must be in possession of a jailbroken iPhone. And, if you have one, next you need to launch Cydia.
  2. Tap on Sources and then enter the julioverne.github.io repository.
  3. Once you have added this new repository and your sources have been refreshed, find Appellancy and install it on your device just like you do with any other tweak. Remember, however, that it’s a paid tweak and will cost you $1.99.
  4. After completing the installation, go back to Home screen where you can launch the Appellancy app. Now, tap the ‘+’ icon that you can find towards top right side for adding new users. During the process, you will have to capture your facial photos. The more the photos, the more accurate this tweak will work.
  5. Congratulations, you have registered yourself successfully and your device will need facial recognition for unlocking it from now on. Just hold the device in front of the face and it will soon unlock.

One thing you have to keep in mind, however, is that it is not as secure as the original Face ID that comes as part of iPhone X. Nevertheless, it still works and it’s a good work around for now.
