The event started with the HomePod Mini becoming official and just it was predicted in the rumors earlier, the smaller HomePod is only 3.3 inches in height which makes it half the size of the original HomePod.

The HomePod Mini comes equipped with many features that were introduced in the HomePod but has a small spherical design which keeps all the touch-sensitive controls at the top.

When it comes to audio quality, the manufacturer claims that the new HomePod Mini comes with a full-range driver featuring dual passive radiators. According to Apple, the hardware would be able to allow for deep bass as well as crisp high-frequency sounds, giving you an immersive 360-degrees audio experience.

Some new features have also been introduced in the software that the device runs. In fact, the new features will be available for both the HomePod as well as the HomePod mini. Family members will get a simple and quick way of connecting with one another at home through the latest Intercom feature. It works with your iPhone, iPad, CarPlay, Apple Watch and AirPods as well.

In addition, the HomePod can also be set as the permanent speaker output option for Apple TV now. Once this setting has been enabled, the HomePod becomes the default speaker for your Apple TV. As of now, it is not clear as to whether this feature will be available for HomePod mini or not.

Besides the sound quality difference that the users will be able to enjoy with this new hardware, there is one more feature that will be offered only to the HomePod users and that’s the spatial awareness function. As a matter of fact, the new HomePod mini includes a new U1 ultra wideband chip to offer better Handoff functionality, which is not available in the full-sized HomePod.

Apple will start accepting orders for HomePod mini on 6th of November, and the hardware will be made available starting from the week of November 16. The device will be priced at $99 and that’s certainly far more affordable as compared to the $299 HomePod. Apple hasn’t cut the price for the larger model at all.

iPhone 12 Lineup

Apple introduced four new iPhones for 2020 that are available in three different sizes as rumored. The lineup includes an iPhone 12, the more affordable of the lot, and it offers a couple of size options i.e. 5.4” and 6.1”. The 5.4” device is the smallest available iPhone in recent years, and the smallest iPhone is named “iPhone 12 Mini”.

The higher-end devices are named iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. These are available in 6.1” and 6.7” sizes where the latter offers the biggest display available to date in an Apple iPhone.

All these new iPhones feature edge-to-edge OLED displays that incorporates Face ID as well as the front-facing TrueDepth cameras. Besides, it’s the very first time that Apple has introduced OLED displays across the board on its iPhone line.

The new iPhone 12 models all offer 5G support as well. The users in the United States will be able to exclusively access smartphones with the fastest mmWave 5G. The support for sub-6GHz 5G will be there in all other countries and also the US.

iPhone 12 Lineup

The new iPhone lineup for 2020 has arrived with some design changes as well. The new iPhones are available in a more iPad Pro-style look which ditches the old rounded edges that we have seen since the introduction of iPhone 6. The newer models have more squared and flat edges.

The iPhone 12 comes equipped with a dual-camera setup featuring wide and ultra-wide lenses along with an improved Smart HDR and a more capable Night mode that extends support for the selfie cam as well as the ultra-wide lens for the very first time. It also comes with a Night mode Time-lapse feature as well. The 2020 iPhone lineup has also arrived with the latest camera technology as well. The higher-end Pro iPhones now feature the LiDAR Scanners on their back and they are similar to the ones that came with the iPad Pro. This scanner allows for object and room scanning, brings AR features, and much more. It also adds to the low-light auto focus while improving capture time as well.

Besides, all the devices will come equipped with the new and faster A14 chips which rely on a 5 nanometer process for reducing transistor size. According to Apple, its new 6-core CPU is around 50% faster compared to other smartphones around today. The devices also come with a new four-core GPU that’s around 50% faster as compared to the competing devices.

Apparently due to the expensive 5G tech, Apple will be shipping the new iPhones without earbuds and power adapter which usually came with the new iPhones. Now, the 2020 iPhone users will have to buy power adapters separately.

MagSafe

Finally, Apple came up with the revived MagSafe branding to introduce its new line of magnetic accessories that will be available for the new iPhone 12 as well as the iPhone 12 Pro models. The entire iPhone 12 range comes with a magnet ring on their back which allows for using the devices with the new MagSafe accessories.

MagSafe

The smartphone manufacturer has also launched a new MagSafe accessories line for the latest iPhone 12, which includes a MagSafe Charger capable of providing around 15W power to your iPhone. Lastly, Apple has also given a chance to the third-party accessory manufacturers to use the new MagSafe ecosystem and introduce innovative accessories of their on which could use the magnets that come at the back of the iPhone 12.

MagSafe

The MagSafe brand revival for the wireless charging line of Apple arrives after the smartphone manufacturer cancelled its AirPower project back in 2019 due to the overheating and reliability concerns. As it appears, Apple has shifted its strategy now and is reverting to the older magnets-based approach which was used with the MagSafe chargers on MacBook line for a long time.

The new Leather Wallet with MagSafe, the new MagSafe Charger, and the iPhone 12 Pro Clear Case and Silicone Case are available since October 16.
