    Apple Music Family Plan – A How To Guide

    Apple Music family plan comes as part of Family Sharing feature in OS X and iOS. Using the feature, several Apple IDs can be able to share everything from photos, movies, calendars, music and TV. Before Family Sharing, groups or families were required to use only a single Apple ID to make their purchasesand it used to be quite problematic for many. When it comes to Apple Music, you can sign up for Apple Music Family plan that allows for six accounts or devices to listen simultaneously while everything is taken care of by Family Sharing.     Signing Up For Apple Music Family Plan

    Before you get on with Family Plan for Apple Music, remember that if someone is already using a free trial of Apple Music then this may not work. In that case, you will need to wait till their trial is over to get them onboard on your Apple Music family Plan. Once it’s over, here are the steps to follow.

    1. Setup family sharing account if you do not have one already and then invite others to share your subscription with them.
    2. Now, use the administrator account of the Family Sharing group to create your Apple Music account, and select Family option when prompted in order to get on with the Family Plan.
    3. If you’re already on Individual Plan, this can be changed by tapping on Account icon towards top left side of Music app and then browsing to View Apple ID and then Manage and then clicking Apple Music Membership in Subscriptions.
    4. On the device of your family members, ensure that they’ve signed into iCloud as well as iTunes
    5. Now launch Music app
    6. Tap on ‘Already a member?’ towards bottom of the signup sheet and log in using Apple ID of the family member. Make sure not to sign up for free trial on the device of the family member.
    7. If things go perfectly then you will get the message “Your family has joined Apple Music” along with the option for enabling iCloud Music Library.

    Switching From An Individual Plan To Apple Music Family Plan

    If you’re planning to set up a family plan of your own, remember that you will have to be organizer of the Family Sharing group for that. And if that’s not the case, you should first launch Settings and tap Set Up Family Sharing in iCloud for kick starting the process. Now that you’re organizer of the Family Sharing group, here are the steps to follow for switching the account to Apple Music family plan.

    1. Launch Music app
    2. Tap on ‘For You’
    3. Tap on ‘Account’ icon that you can find towards top right side
    4. Tap on ‘View Apple ID’. Enter password to continue
    5. Tap on Subscriptions
    6. Next, tap on Apple Music Membership
    7. Now, change the subscription from individual to Apple Music Family plan

    Switching From Head Of Family Plan To Individual Plan

    You may be planning to switch to an individual plan and leave your status as head of the family plan. However, before you do that, keep in mind that changing your plan will mean that any members of the family sharing group on your Apple Music Family Plan will not be able to access it anymore. All their data from Apple Music will be kept on the servers of Apple for specific time period so that they all can sign up for their individual plans getting the opportunity to restore their likes and library. So, here’s how you can switch to an Individual Plan.

    1. Launch Apple Music on your device
    2. Tap on ‘For You’
    3. Tap on ‘Account’ icon that you can find towards top right side
    4. Tap on ‘View Apple ID’. Enter password to continue
    5. Tap on Subscriptions
    6. Next, tap on Apple Music Membership
    7. Now, change your subscription from Apple Music family plan to individual plan

    Switching From Sub-Membership In Apple Music Family Plan To Individual Plan

    If you’re not the head of the family group but have a sub-membership and you want to switch to an individual plan, you can do that as well. Here it is important to mention that you’ll be required to leave the Family Sharing group temporarily for switching to the Individual Plan. However, you can rejoin the group once your account has been switched.

    When you leave the group, all your data will stay on the servers for some time and you will have time for signing up for individual plan, etc. Now, here is how you can switch to an individual plan.

    1. Go to Settings
    2. Tap on Apple ID banner
    3. Next, tap on Family
    4. Tap on Leave Family Sharing
    5. Now, open Music application. This will log you out from your account on Apple Music and you’ll get the option for starting free trial from scratch. And when you sign up, the Apple Music account gets restored.
    6. If you want, now you can ask the organizer of Family Sharing group to add you again

    Switching From Individual Plan On Apple Music To Sub-Membership

    Finally, if you want to switch from individual plan to sub-membership on your Apple Music family plan, here are the steps to follow.

    1. First of all, you need to ensure that organizer of family sharing group has made you a part of their group. Also, they should have Apple Music family plan as well.
    2. Launch Music app
    3. Tap on For You
    4. Tap on ‘Account’ icon that you can find towards top right side
    5. Tap on ‘View Apple ID’. Enter password to continue
    6. Tap on Subscriptions
    7. Next, tap on Apple Music Membership
    8. Now, turn off the auto-renew option

    When renewal period will end and plan gets expired, all you will be required to do is logging out and then logging back in on Apple Music. Now you will be on the Apple Music family plan of head of your Family Sharing group.
