Only a few weeks ahead of the Apple’s official announcement, some digging around into the existing products from the manufacturer has revealed a bit of information that was previously unknown. Gui Rambo has managed to reveal a reference in the Xcode 10 app to a device that’s not been released yet and the placeholder used for it was ‘iPhone XX’.
Firstly, here nobody is suggestive of the point that Apple is planning to come up with some iPhone 20 in the next month event or call it iPhone Double X as revealed in this latest discovery. It is very clear, however, that the discovery we’re talking about here is some type of interim placeholder used in the internal device list of Xcode for some brand new iPhone model that is yet to be named, publicly at least.
And, as there are speculations about the release of three brand new models from Apple this year, it’s going to be quite interesting to find out the marketed names of the devices coming up and, specifically, which device is being referenced with this placeholder.
This placeholder has been revealed in what appears to be a populated devices’ list defining the simulator version on which the apps can be run by the developers if they’re built in Xcode 10. Incidentally, this Xcode version is still in its beta state along with macOS Mojave and iOS 12. Besides the fact that this upcoming device is referred to as iPhone xx within Xcode 10, we don’t really know much about this mystery device except the fact that it’d expectedly ship with A10 processor chip that was initially used in iPhone 7 from Apple.
It seems as if the device will be introduced potentially as a highly affordable, entry-level device for the emerging markets like India where Apple wants to capitalize on the available opportunities. The developer Steve Troughton-Smith also shared a feeling that the new device could be iPhone 7-esque.
Considering everything that we are aware of so far about the upcoming plans of Apple, we don’t think that the iPhone xx we’re discussing here will be among the three iPhones that Apple is expected to introduce next month.
The cheaper one among the three devices that Apple is expected to launch will features A12 chip, a revamped design of iPhone X, and functionality similar to Face ID. Now, that’s the reason why iPhone xx may be some sort of anomaly being shown in the Xcode 10 or it may be referring to something that is essentially the latest iPhone 7-esque that would be a cheaper build and is going to aim at the emerging markets.
