Apple’s latest iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro are out now and they featured the very first iteration of the latest Ceramic Shield which makes them the sturdiest of phones around. According to Apple’s claims, the new iPhone screens are protected almost 4 times better when it comes to breakage after being dropped. The manufacturer believes that it appears they’re just spot on with the new tech.
Even though many had their doubts about the accuracy of these claims from Apple but a YouTuber tested the new protection feature and believes Apple might’ve hit the jackpot here.
MobileReviewsEh tested the latest iPhones using a force meter and found that it worked great. Now, according to the tests, the older iPhone 11 could withstand a force of 352 Newtons. On the contrary, the latest iPhone 12, which featured a new display, was able to withstand around 442 Newtons. Well, that’s certainly a great sign.
The same sort of results came with the scratch resistance too where the Mohs hardness test showed the iPhone 12 performed great at point six and had a few small scratches at point seven. The older iPhone 11 got scratched at both point six and point seven.
“The Ceramic Shield is definitely tougher on the iPhone 12s. Quite a bit, over 100 newtons. It took a lot of effort to break this screen. The remainder of the iPhone in terms of scratch protection is similar to the iPhone 11. Screen is a little more scratch resistant.”
As more and more users now go for iPhones, it would definitely feel better as to how well the new screens would hold up against real life wear and tear. As things stand for now, Apple seems to have found a great feature with the new Ceramic Shield screen protection.
