iOS 11.1 Beta 2 Performance Comparison With iOS 11.0.2

Another iOS 11.1 pre-release version makes its way to the developers and it’s about time that we see if there are any major performance improvements introduced by Apple with iOS 11.1 beta 2 over current iOS 11.0.2 version.

Just as the norm has developed, both iOS 11.1 beta 2 as well as iOS 11.0.2 were loaded up to several Apple devices by iAppleBytes to check out all the differences in performance of the two iOS versions.

It’s just a couple of days since Apple has released its latest iOS 11.1 beta 2 which has come up almost thirteen days after that initial beta version from Apple. This time period is, obviously, enough for Apple to try out something new and introduce that meaningful change in its latest firmware that would surely benefit end users. iAppleBytes is trying to investigate the changes that have been made to the previous version using its time tested process i.e. loading up several Apple devices with both the firmware versions and then exploring which of them performs the best.

iOS 11.1 Beta 2 And iOS 11.0.2 Performance Comparison

This time the devices used include iPhone 6, iPhone 7, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6s, and the iPad Air where all of them run the two firmware versions being discussed here, and all go through same procedure for testing in the bid to ensure that, at least, we get semi-accurate results. Testing process used on each of the devices is also pretty much the same.

All the tablets and smartphones are booted up from cold start and the action is timed. After that they invoked the apps one after the other to check how both the iOS versions handle apps’ invocation. In the end, there’s a 2nd run-through of launching the apps to find out the speed at which each of these iOS versions bring the apps back to foreground while loading the data from the multitasking switcher.

As these devices boot up, it’s quite evident that the manufacturer has gone a step backwards on the older devices as far as iOS 11.1 beta 2 is concerned. iPhone 5s running iOS 11.1 beta 2 booted up quite slower as compared to when it was running iOS 11.0.2. Some of this regression is, however, covered by the fact that iOS 11.1 beta shows clear improvement when it comes to animation and app loading. But the device owners may not be too happy to see the performance of their device if it were running iOS 11.1.
