The “Big Hack Report” Denied Strongly By Apple Saying There Were No Chinese Spy Chip Found In Apple’s Servers

It’s been a long standing concern that the technology firms from China may be used as attack vector for Chinese government. A recent report from Bloomberg says Apple and Amazon have discovered the Chinese surveillance chips installed in various server motherboards which were contracted originally from Super Micro.

Despite the claims of discovery of several surveillance chips, a strong denial has come from Apple and they have gone that extra mile to send several press releases for reiterating the fact.

In the latest statement sent to the press, Apple was expressive of its frustration that the reporters at Bloomberg haven’t been receptive to any chances of misinformation being spread by their sources. Apple claims that an infected driver was actually found on only one of the Super Micro servers in the lab but that was 3 years ago and the incident was reported last year by The Information. Subsequently, Apple decided to end terms with Super Micro back in 2016 while reporting everything else afterwards to FBI, which is also highlighted in Bloomberg report.

It’s also been claimed in that report that Amazon also spotted its own chip around that same time and informed FBI as well. There are suspicions that these chips were included as part of hardware attack that gave Chinese government the opportunity to keep spying on US companies as well as their users.

It’s quite evident that Apple doesn’t really feel so happy about this report and they believe that Bloomberg’s important facts are all wrong about how severe this incident was.

In the press release, Apple says that they’ve been contacted many times by Bloomberg claiming some security incident has allegedly happened at Apple. Every time rigorous investigations were conducted internally based on the inquiries and every time they didn’t find any evidence whatsoever to support those claims from Bloomberg. They say that factual responses were offered to Bloomberg team repeatedly and consistently to refute almost every single aspect of the story from Bloomberg.

It’s explicitly mentioned in the Apple’s press release that they are very clear on the fact that malicious chips have never been found in Apple’s servers and they never had to contact FBI or other agencies for anything of the sorts. They claim that they don’t know anything about investigations being conducted by FBI and even their contacts in the law enforcement agencies are aware of anything like that actually happening.

The press release from Apple also presented some facts while responding to the latest narrative from Bloomberg revealing that Topsy and Siri did not share servers ever. Besides, they say that they never deployed Siri ever on the server they received from Super Micro while Topsy data limit was around 2000 servers from Super Micro rather than 7000. Not even a single server was found to have any malicious chips whatsoever.

There have been many facts and revelations coming from Apple in their recent press releases and what we’ve shared here is just the tip of the iceberg. Nevertheless, as it appears, there hasn’t been much to hide as far as Apple is concerned. Let’s see how this turns up as we move forward.
