WhatsApp for iOS Now Comes With Support For Rich Notifications

WhatsApp, the popular social app for iOS and Android, has received a recent update and it seems to be a way for smoothening things up for a new feature that’s quite in demand for some time. If the reports are to be believed, we’re about to witness support for media previews through notifications in WhatsApp for iOS.

With this new update, people who receive some sort of media file through WhatsApp will now get a notification with the received media being replaced by some camera emoji. This will force users to go to the app for checking out the media they have received.

It works the same way when you receive GIFs on your iOS device. In this case, users will be able to see space invader emoji on the notifications screen. However, this may change at some later stage.

Those at the WABetaInfo have also spotted that the WhatsApp 2.18.80 comes with the foundations that make complete media previews work within the iOS notifications. There is support for both GIFs and images that are probably the most used types of media which you’ll likely be receiving on WhatsApp.

When you get a rich notification, you’ll either have the option to use Peek & Pop 3D Touch gesture or you can swipe down on a particular notification for taking a look at its preview even though you have the option of tapping at the notification for properly launching WhatsApp. It’s been long since this feature is anticipated and we can’t seem to wait more for it to arrive.

The features that actually made an appearance, however, with latest WhatsApp update include sending messages in WhatsApp Groups using Siri. Yes, it’s something that was much anticipated as well and wasn’t there until now for inexplicable reasons.

We don’t have any timescale information on how long WhatsApp will be supporting media in the notifications officially, but hopefully it’s not far away.
