According to a report, Apple’s AirPods Max and AirPods Pro might see support for their spatial audio feature on Netflix when using iPhone/iPad in near future.
iPhoneSoft quoted an anonymous Netflix developer saying that Netflix is already conducting tests for spatial audio support in the app. In fact, they have been running these tests since late 2020.
“This novelty has been tested at Netflix since last December, according to a very well-informed source. This person is indeed working on the development part for the firm in the USA, but wishes to remain anonymous for obvious reasons. According to her, the leader in streaming should launch this novelty by spring with a logically limited catalog at the outset.”
Spatial audio feature is only available to the AirPods Max and AirPods Pro users and it makes sounds to appear as if they were moving around based on their source’s location. Here is how the feature has been described by Apple.
“Spatial audio with dynamic head tracking brings theater-like sound that surrounds you from the movie or video you’re watching, so that it seems as if the sound is coming from all around you. The sound field stays mapped to the device, and the voice stays with the actor or action on screen.”
Currently, we can’t tell exactly when Netflic plans to ship this spatial audio feature for general public and there are no signs right now that if they are planning to roll out some type of a public beta version of the feature. However, in order to use this novel feature, the users must be running the latest iOS 14 on their iPhones and iPadOS 14 on their Apple tablets.
