The tvOS 18 software update was revealed by Apple during the WWDC event that took place on 10 June 2024. Although the software updates for Mac, iPad and iPhone grabbed the attention, Apple TV owners can still expect some latest features.
Support for Live Captions is one of those latest features that will work during a FaceTime call while using a 4K device of Apple TV. The action indicates that for the first time, users would be able to watch live sub-titles of whatever is being spoken on FaceTime call.
This feature would be a major upgrade for those who have difficulty in hearing the conversation during calls or are auditory-challenged, and considering the fact that FaceTime call would be displayed on big television screen significantly enhances the feature’s usefulness.
Users who download the tvOS 18 update would need an Apple TV 4K of 2nd generation or newer version to access the latest Live Caption for FaceTime feature. Now, those with the older versions might want to upgrade to the new one if they consider that this feature will be useful for them.
But the point to be noted is that this feature be offered in English only and to the people in Canada and United States at release. It can be expected that the feature would extend to more countries and in additional languages as well in future.
The tvOS 18 software update is presently accessible in beta form to the developers, however, it will not be unveiled to the public until the end of this year. It is likely to be released simultaneously with iOS 18 and other major platforms in September timeframe if Apple maintains its routine.
