The Upcoming Magsafe Duo Charger From Apple Can’t Charge An iPhone 12 At Full 15W

Apple is yet to offer its new MagSafe Duo Charger up for sale, but there are a couple of reasons why you might not be willing buy it. The $129 price tag being one of them, the price isn’t the only reason why Apple users would like to refrain from the new offering.

As Mark Gurman of Bloomberg spotted, the new Magsafe Duo charger won’t be able to charge an iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, or iPhone 12 Pro Max even at its maximum 15W power.

Rather, it is only capable of charging at 14W max and even that would be possible only when it is paired with a 27W USB-charger or something with a higher capacity.

It is important to note down here that the MagSafe Duo Charger is not shipped by Apple with an adapter, and the manufacturer doesn’t sell a 27W charger either, but one that is 30W.

Here is the information you’d find on the Apple’s store page regarding this matter.

There isn’t a major difference between charging a device at 14W or 15W. And, it is likely that this extra power could be used for charging an Apple Watch considering the fact that the charger has the capability to charge two devices together.

However, it’s still quite interesting. Besides, that’s exactly what makes the new charger particularly expensive depending what power adapter you choose for the pairing purposes.
